A Word From Sam
One thing I find myself saying constantly to people across the gym floor is… “slow down!” (yes, you know who you are!)
Honestly, if I could have a dollar for every time I’ve told someone to slow down during an exercise, I’d probably be able to take the whole MedHP membership on an overseas holiday. Business class no less!
I can’t emphasise enough, control during resistance exercise is a really important part of getting the outcomes you’re chasing. Sometimes there’s a temptation to rush through movements, particularly when an exercise starts to feel challenging, but often the magic is actually in slowing things down.
Good exercise tempo helps muscles work harder, improves balance and coordination, and allows you to move with better quality and better awareness of your body. It also helps us load the right muscles the right way, instead of letting momentum take over and do all the work for us.
At MedHP, we care a lot about moving well, not just moving weights around. There’s a big difference between completing an exercise and actually getting the most out of it. Another thing worth remembering is not to compare yourself to other people around you. Everyone in the gym is on their own path. Different bodies, different injuries, different goals, different exercise history and different life stuff going on outside the gym.
Some people are rebuilding strength. Some are managing pain. Some are trying to improve fitness. Some are chasing performance goals. And some are just trying to feel better walking up the stairs or getting out of the car.
So my advice is to stay in your lane.
Focus on your program, your movement quality and your own progress. The people who get the best long-term results usually aren’t the ones rushing through exercises or worrying about what everybody else is doing. They’re the ones who consistently show up, put good effort into their sessions and trust the process over time.
As I’ve said before, the secret sauce is consistency, effort and time.
Keep showing up team. You’re doing great! See you on the gym floor!

MedHP Clinic Updates
There have been a few exciting changes around the clinic recently! We’ve moved some of our spin bikes down the road to the MedHP Hub at 42 Advantage Road, which has freed up some extra space in our cardio room. The additional room has allowed us to create a more versatile training area for floor-based strength, balance and mobility exercises. We’ve also added extra dumbbells, resistance bands and Swiss balls, so feel free to make use of them during your workouts.
In addition to this change, Sam has decided to create a monthly cardio challenge for all those members wanting an extra test in their exercise regime. Keep an eye out on the cardio room whiteboard for the upcoming challenge!
We’re also giving our social media channels a bit of a refresh. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages over the coming weeks for more exercise tips, health education, clinic news, member highlights and a few behindthe-scenes moments from the MedHP community. If you’re not already following us, you’ll find links to our socials at the bottom of this newsletter.

On a safety note, if you’re using the HUR equipment, please remember to unload the machine when you’ve finished. This is particularly important for the abduction/adduction machine and lat pull machine. It helps keep everyone safe and saves the next member from an unexpected surprise when they sit down to start their session. Thank you for helping us keep the gym running smoothly for all.
Lastly, a friendly reminder that from the 1st of July, a physical fob key will be required for access to the Members Lounge and for gym use during unstaffed hours. If you haven’t organised yours yet, simply pop in and see our admin team and we’ll get you sorted.

MedHP’s Walking Group
One of the highlights on the MedHP calendar is our Walking Group, which continues to bring members together for a great mix of exercise, fresh air and social connection.
Held approximately every 8 weeks, the Walking Group is a relaxed 5–6 km walk through the local area, giving members the opportunity to get moving, enjoy the outdoors, and catch up with fellow members outside of the gym environment. The pace is comfortable and welcoming, making it suitable for a wide range of fitness levels.
Once the walk is finished, the group heads to a local café to enjoy a well-earned coffee and conversation. It’s often these chats and connections that make the Walking Group such a popular event, helping strengthen the wonderful community spirit that MedHP is known for.
Whether you’re a regular walker or simply looking for a fun way to stay active and meet new people, we’d love to have you join us at the next walk. Keep an eye on our newsletters, social media pages and noticeboards for details of upcoming dates.

Did you know?
The best way to improve balance is to retrain the body and the brain.
Every feature of HUR equipment has been designed to simplify use, ensure safety, and increase motivation. HUR fitness equipment match your body’s natural muscular movement using smooth air technology.
The result is a safer, more effective exercise or people of all ages and abilities. HUR machines target specific muscle groups in an ergonomic position. Its controlled resistance loading automatically adjusts as you progress to allow a safe and seamless movement progression.
As your body adapts to training, the same exercises and loads become less challenging, meaning your results can plateau. Regular reviews allow your exercise physiologist to adjust intensity, progress exercises and address any new goals or limitations, ensuring your program stays safe, effective and motivating.

Best Wishes Kate!
As many of you already know, our wonderful Exercise Physiologist Kate is preparing for a very exciting new chapter, with baby number two due to arrive soon!
Kate will be commencing her maternity leave at the end of this week, and while we will certainly miss seeing her around the clinic, we couldn’t be happier for her and her growing family.
Kate has been a valued part of the MedHP team and has built wonderful relationships with so many of our members through her classes, encouragement and care. We know many of you will join us in wishing her all the very best as she takes this special time to welcome her newest family member.
The good news is that all of Kate’s classes will continue as normal, with no changes to class times. Nathan and Freya will be stepping in to lead these sessions during Kate’s leave, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity for all members.
We would like to thank Kate for everything she contributes to our community and look forward to hearing all about the newest addition to her family. We can’t wait to welcome her back when the time is right. Until then, please join us in wishing Kate and her family all the very best for a happy, healthy and exciting few months ahead!
